Abstract

Introduction The aviation industry is undergoing a profound digital transformation, reshaping how airplanes are flown, maintained, and managed. From the cockpit to air traffic control centers, technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), big data analytics, and smart systems are becoming integral to daily operations. Airlines and regulators worldwide recognize that embracing digital innovation is not just a choice but a necessity to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in the skies. As ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar observes, “AI is transforming aviation across multiple dimensions: safety, operational efficiency, economics, and environmental sustainability, strengthening the industry’s resilience and adaptability”. This transformation is a global movement, but its impacts are felt locally as well – including in the Philippines, where airlines and institutions are starting to leverage these technologies to modernize aviation.
