Exploring Healthcare Professionals' Perspectives on Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Initiatives

This qualitative phenomenological study explored healthcare professionals’ perspectives on quality improvement (QI) and patient safety initiatives. Using purposive sampling, semi-structured interviews were conducted virtually and analyzed through thematic analysis. Five themes emerged: (1) active participation in QI activities, (2) patient safety knowledge and practices, (3) integration of QI in daily practice, (4) challenges in QI participation, and (5) impact of QI on outcomes. Findings revealed that healthcare professionals consistently engage in QI through monitoring, audits, data use, and teamwork, contributing to improved patient safety and professional growth. Barriers including workload pressures, staff resistance, and resource limitations were identified as significant challenges. Strengthening organizational support, leadership engagement, and continuous training are essential to sustain effective QI and patient safety practices across healthcare settings.
