Abstract

This qualitative study was undertaken in mathematics classrooms in the Philippines to investigate the impact of gamification on student engagement and learning outcomes. The study uncovered significant and profound effects that occurred as a result of incorporating gamified learning exercises. Increased student engagement was seen when mathematics lessons were augmented with gamification components such as points, badges, and leaderboards, leading to heightened interest and participation. Furthermore, the implementation of gamification greatly enhanced students' motivation in the field of mathematics by offering explicit goals and rewards that stimulated active engagement and persistence in problem-solving activities. The implementation of gamification in mathematics education enhanced students' learning interest by making topics more accessible and relatable. This, in turn, fostered a positive peer influence and facilitated a collaborative learning environment. In addition, gamification enabled the provision of personalized learning experiences that addressed the specific requirements and preferences of individual students, thereby improving concentration and fostering positive attitudes towards mathematical challenges. These studies highlight the effectiveness of gamification in improving student engagement, motivation, and learning outcomes in mathematics education in various educational contexts in the Philippines.
